Central Virginia Community College, in collaboration with the Region 2000 Economic Development Council, Virginia Department of Business Assistance and Lynchburg Media Group, will host a Small Business Day for the region’s prospective and current small business owners Thursday, Oct. 18, in Merritt Hall on the college’s main campus in Lynchburg.
Morning activity will include an Entrepreneur Express seminar requiring pre-registration. The seminar will provide a series of workshops offered throughout Virginia that provide interactive discussions and exercises covering key elements of business practices. Segments will include starting and operating a business, growing and marketing a business, and financing and managing resources.
Afternoon events include a resource fair with more than 20 vendors who will provide information and support to help people develop or expand their small businesses.
Vendors include Bank of the James, Campbell County Economic Development, Central Virginia Community College Business Division, Central Virginia Procurement Technical Assistance Program, Central Virginia Training Center Procurement, city of Lynchburg Procurement, First National Bank, Lynchburg Media Group, Lynchburg Office of Economic Development, Lynchburg Economic Development Authority, Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Lynchburg Retail Merchants Association, Region 2000 Economic Development Council, Region 2000 Small Business Development Center, SCORE, Scott Insurance, U.S. Small Business Administration in Richmond, Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Procurement, Virginia Department of Business Assistance, Virginia Department of Minority Business Enterprise, Virginia Department of Transportation Procurement, Virginia Tourism and Ward Dean Jr., CPA
The afternoon session will also include numerous seminars on topics of interest to small businesses. The seminars include starting and growing a small business, selling to government agencies, social media, legal issues, insurance and government assistance for small businesses.
