On Monday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the newly-restored Academy Center of the Arts, 600 Main Street, Mayor Treney Tweedy and Vice Mayor Mary Jane Dolan will deliver the 2019 State of the City Address. This year’s theme is Our Lynchburg Story – A Vision for 2025! The public is cordially invited to attend.
“I am very excited that we will have this year’s State of the City event at the Academy,” said Mayor Tweedy. Not only is it a beautiful theater, but the new venue gives us the opportunity to make it a true community event, and the public can expect a totally different experience than in previous years.”
Vice Mayor Dolan will be delivering her first State of the City Address. “Lynchburg is such an amazing community and the State of the City is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and to celebrate all the reasons why this city is such a great place to live, work and play,” said the Vice Mayor.
In addition to a change of venue, this is the first year City Council will present the Neighborhood Recognition Awards Program honoring the outstanding work individuals and neighborhoods have done, going above and beyond to make our community a better place to live, work and play. The award categories are: Outstanding Neighborhood of the Year, Lifetime Neighborhood Service, Perfect Partnership, College Student of the Year and Neighbor to Neighbor.
Prior to the start of the event, entertainment will be provided by members of the Lynchburg arts and cultural community and will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
A reception in the lobby of the Academy will follow upon the conclusion of the State of the City Address.
